Host: Welcome to Get Heard Of, where local businesses tell you who they are and what they do. Today we're chatting to Muddy Paws Grooming, who look after some very lucky dogs. Thanks for coming in.
Muddy Paws Grooming: Thanks for having me. Yeah, it's nice to have a natter about it, we don't normally get to stop and talk, we're usually elbow deep in fur.
Host: Ha, I bet you are.
Host: So just to start, what does a typical day look like for you?
Muddy Paws Grooming: So we do full grooms, baths, nail trims, that sort of thing. We also do puppy introductions, so young dogs can come in and get used to the whole process before it's a big deal.
Host: Oh, that's a nice idea, getting them comfortable early.
Muddy Paws Grooming: Yeah, it makes a massive difference. If a dog's first experience is calm and relaxed, they tend to carry that with them. It's much harder to undo a bad first go, you know.
Host: That makes sense.
Host: So what would you say makes you different from other groomers?
Muddy Paws Grooming: Honestly? We only do one dog at a time. No cages, nobody waiting in a crate listening to other dogs barking.
Host: Right, so it's just them and you, basically.
Muddy Paws Grooming: Pretty much. There's no queue of dogs stressing each other out. If a dog's nervous, that whole environment just winds them up more, so we try to keep it quiet and calm the whole time they're with us.
Host: That must take a lot more time per dog though?
Muddy Paws Grooming: It does take longer, yeah. We're not trying to get through loads of dogs in a day. We'd rather take our time and have the dog leave in a good state than rush it.
Host: That's a fair trade-off, I'd say.
Host: So who's this really best suited to?
Muddy Paws Grooming: Anxious dogs, definitely. Or older dogs who maybe don't move as easy, or get a bit overwhelmed with noise and other animals around.
Host: Right, yeah, that makes a lot of sense for older ones especially.
Muddy Paws Grooming: Yeah, an older dog, their joints might be a bit stiff, they're not as quick to settle. Having their own space and time helps a lot with that.
Host: And what sort of dogs do you tend to see coming through the door, generally speaking?
Muddy Paws Grooming: All sorts, honestly. Some are fine, just normal dogs who need a groom. But a good few come to us because somewhere else didn't work out for them, it was too busy or too loud.
Host: Right, so you get a lot of the trickier cases, in a way.
Muddy Paws Grooming: Yeah, I suppose so. We don't mind that though. It's kind of what we're set up for, taking it slow with the ones who need it.
Host: And for the puppies coming in for their first introduction, what's that actually like?
Muddy Paws Grooming: It's just gentle, really. No pressure on them to sit through a full groom straight away. Maybe a bit of handling, a bit of brushing, just so it's not a scary new thing.
Host: That's such a good way to start them off.
Muddy Paws Grooming: Yeah, we think so. Little things like that stick with a dog, so yeah.
Host: Well, this has been lovely. If you've got a dog who gets a bit anxious, or an older one who needs a bit of extra patience, sounds like Muddy Paws Grooming is well worth a call. Thanks so much for joining us.
Muddy Paws Grooming: Thanks for having me, it's been good fun.
