Chris's Roofing and Building Services: Thanks for having me. Good to be here.

Host: Tell me a little bit about the business and what makes you different.

Chris's Roofing and Building Services: We cover all sorts of roofing, flat roofs, pitched roofs, full replacements, leak investigations, repairs big and small. But we also do general building work alongside that, extensions, loft conversions, plastering, that kind of thing.

Host: That's quite a spread.

Host: Is that unusual for a roofing company?

Chris's Roofing and Building Services: It is, actually. A lot of roofers just stick to the roof. We understand how the whole building fits together, structurally I mean, so if there's an issue that's connected to the roof but it's actually a building problem, we can see that and deal with it ourselves.

Host: Right, so you're not just patching the symptom.

Chris's Roofing and Building Services: Exactly that. We can look at a job properly rather than just the bit that's leaking.

Host: So what would you say really sets you apart from other roofing or building firms out there?

Chris's Roofing and Building Services: Honestly? It's being small. When someone calls, they're speaking to the person who's actually going to be doing or overseeing the work. No call centre, no salesperson turning up to quote and then someone else doing the job.

Host: Oh, that's a good point, that disconnect happens a lot, doesn't it?

Chris's Roofing and Building Services: It does. And I think people appreciate knowing who's actually coming to their house.

Host: What about when it comes to giving advice, do you find people expect you to just push for the bigger job?

Chris's Roofing and Building Services: We try not to work that way. If a repair will genuinely sort the problem, we'll say so. If a roof's really at the end of its life, we'll tell people that too, even if it's not what they were hoping to hear.

Host: I imagine that honesty matters more than people think.

Chris's Roofing and Building Services: It does, in the long run. A cheap quote that doesn't fix anything isn't really cheap, is it.

Host: So who's this really for, who do you tend to work with?

Chris's Roofing and Building Services: Homeowners mostly, from a small repair right up to a full re-roof or an extension. We also do work for landlords and property management companies, they need someone who'll respond quickly and sort things properly between tenancies.

Host: That makes sense, especially with older properties I'd imagine?

Chris's Roofing and Building Services: Older houses especially. They often need roofing and building work together, not just one or the other, so having both under one roof, so to speak, helps.

Host: Ha, nice.

Host: And what sort of jobs are you typically called out for day to day?

Chris's Roofing and Building Services: Could be anything, really. A slipped tile, a leaking flat roof, right through to someone wanting a loft conversion. We handle it whatever the size, that's kind of the point of doing both roofing and building.
