Clearbook Accounts GetHeardOf Podcast 3 October 2026 Host: Welcome to Get Heard Of, where local businesses tell you who they are and what they do. Today I'm chatting with Clearbook Accounts, who do the books for small businesses up and down the country. Thanks for coming in. Clearbook Accounts: Thanks for having me, it's nice to actually talk about this stuff for once, rather than just doing it. Host: Ha, fair enough. Host: So just to start simple, what does Clearbook Accounts actually do, day to day? Clearbook Accounts: Yeah, so we handle the bookkeeping, VAT returns, payroll if people need it, and then the year-end accounts at the end of it all. Basically everything number-related that a small business has to deal with. Host: Right, so the full package really. Clearbook Accounts: Pretty much. A lot of people come to us just wanting one bit sorted, and then realise it's easier to let us just take the whole lot off their plate. Host: That makes sense. Host: So what would you say makes you different from other accountants out there? Clearbook Accounts: Honestly? Two things, and they both come up constantly when people are choosing us. It's a fixed monthly fee, so no surprise bills, and you always speak to the same accountant. Host: Oh, that's a good one actually, the same person every time? Clearbook Accounts: Yeah. I think a lot of people have had that experience where you ring up and get whoever's free, and you have to explain your whole situation again from scratch. We just don't do that. Host: That sounds like it'd save a lot of headache. Clearbook Accounts: It does. People know who they're talking to, that person knows their business, and it just, it takes the stress out of it, really. Host: So who's this best suited for? Who should be picking up the phone? Clearbook Accounts: Sole traders, mostly, and small firms. Anyone who just hates dealing with paperwork, basically. Host: Ha, that's probably most people. Clearbook Accounts: Honestly, yeah. I don't think I've met a sole trader yet who's excited about doing their VAT return of an evening. Host: No, I imagine not. Host: What sort of work tends to come through the door most often, then? Clearbook Accounts: It's a real mix, but the bookkeeping and VAT returns are probably the steady, ongoing stuff. Then payroll comes in if someone's taken on staff. And year-end accounts, obviously, that's the big one once a year. Host: Right, so it's not just a once-a-year thing for most people. Clearbook Accounts: Not at all, no. A lot of our clients, we're in touch with them regularly, not just when the deadline's looming. Host: That's probably reassuring, knowing someone's keeping on top of it in the background. Clearbook Accounts: That's the idea. We try to... well, we always say, if you're not thinking about your accounts, that's a good sign we're doing our job. Host: I like that. Host: And for someone who's never used an accountant before, maybe just starting out, what would you say to them? Clearbook Accounts: Just get in touch and have a chat, really. You don't need to already understand VAT or payroll or any of it. That's sort of the whole point of us. Host: Take the fear out of it. Clearbook Accounts: Exactly that, yeah. Nobody should be losing sleep over a spreadsheet. Host: Well, this has been really useful, honestly. If you're a sole trader or running a small firm and you're sick of the paperwork, go and have a chat with Clearbook Accounts. Thanks so much for joining us today. Clearbook Accounts: Thanks for having me, it's been good fun.
