Host: Welcome to Get Heard Of, where local businesses tell you who they are and what they do. Today I'm chatting with the owner of Chris's Roofing and Building Service, a builder and tradesperson covering all sorts of roofing and building work.

Host: Morning, Chris, how are you doing?

Chris's Roofing and Building Services: Yeah, good thanks, good to be here.

Host: So let's start right at the beginning. What got you into roofing and building in the first place?

Chris's Roofing and Building Services: Honestly? It was just one of those things, I fell into construction young and I never really left it. I've been doing it, all in, for twenty seven years now.

Host: Twenty seven years, wow.

Chris's Roofing and Building Services: Yeah, it's a long time. I think once you learn a trade properly you just keep wanting to learn the next bit. So roofing led to building work, building work led to extensions, and it sort of grew from there.

Host: That's interesting, so it wasn't one straight path?

Chris's Roofing and Building Services: No, not really. I started out probably more focused on roofs, flat roofs, pitched roofs, repairs, that kind of thing. But over the years I picked up more general building skills, loft conversions, extensions, retaining walls, even plastering and decorating.

Host: Right, so you're not just a one trick contractor then.

Chris's Roofing and Building Services: No, that's the idea really. I didn't want to be someone who could only do one bit of a job and then has to bring someone else in.

Host: And was that the reason you went out on your own, to offer that fuller service?

Chris's Roofing and Building Services: Yeah, pretty much. I've been running my own business for over five years now, and that was the thinking behind it. After all that time on site, I knew what frustrated people, having to deal with different trades for every little thing.

Host: That makes sense.

Chris's Roofing and Building Services: So I thought, why not just be the one person people call, whether it's a small roof repair or a full extension.

Host: And is that what you'd say sets you apart from other builders out there?

Chris's Roofing and Building Services: I think so, yeah. It's the experience behind it really, all those years, combined with being small enough to still give people honest advice and a bit of a personal service. Bigger companies can't always do that.

Host: Yeah, that personal touch does make a difference.

Chris's Roofing and Building Services: It does. People just want to feel like they're talking to someone who actually knows what they're doing and cares whether it's done right.

Host: So who would you say you end up working with most, is it mainly homeowners?

Chris's Roofing and Building Services: It's a good mix, honestly. Homeowners are a big part of it, anything from a small repair up to a full re-roof or an extension. But I also do a fair amount with landlords, who need things like plastering or general maintenance sorted between tenants.

Host: Oh, that makes sense, keeping places ready to let out again.

Chris's Roofing and Building Services: Exactly. And then there's property management companies too, they need someone who can respond quick if there's a leak or storm damage, rather than waiting around.

Host: So really anyone who needs one reliable person for roofing and building, rather than juggling a few different contractors.

Chris's Roofing and Building Services: That's it, that's really the whole point of how I set things up.
