Hartley and Sons Builders GetHeardOf Podcast 3 October 2026 Host: Welcome to Get Heard Of, where local businesses tell you who they are and what they do. Today I'm chatting with Hartley and Sons Builders. Morning, thanks for coming in. Hartley and Sons Builders: Morning. No, good to be here, thanks for having us. Host: So let's start simple. Host: What does Hartley and Sons actually do, day to day? Hartley and Sons Builders: Yeah, so we do house extensions, loft conversions, and full renovations. That's really the three things we focus on. Host: Right, so if someone wants more space but doesn't want to move house, that's you. Hartley and Sons Builders: Pretty much, yeah. A lot of people don't want the hassle of moving, so they'd rather sort out the house they've already got. Host: That makes sense. Host: So what would you say makes you different from other builders doing similar work? Hartley and Sons Builders: Honestly? It's a family firm, and it's the same team from start to finish. We don't swap people halfway through. Host: Oh, that's interesting. Host: Does that happen a lot with other builders, swapping people? Hartley and Sons Builders: It can do, yeah. Different trades coming and going, nobody really knowing what happened the week before. We try to avoid that. Host: And I believe you're on site yourself most days? Hartley and Sons Builders: Every day, yeah. I like being there. If something needs deciding, I'm already on site, so it just gets sorted there and then. Host: Right, so there's no waiting around for someone to get back to you. Hartley and Sons Builders: Exactly. It just makes things quicker, and people seem to like knowing who they're dealing with. Host: So who would you say this kind of service is really best for? Hartley and Sons Builders: Honestly, a lot of our customers are doing their first big project. First extension, first loft conversion, that sort of thing. Host: Yeah? So people who haven't been through it before. Hartley and Sons Builders: That's it. It can feel a bit daunting if you've never done it, so having someone steady around helps, I think. Host: That's a good point actually, because building work can feel a bit overwhelming for people who've never done it. Hartley and Sons Builders: It can, yeah. There's a lot going on. Having the same faces there the whole way through just makes it feel a bit calmer. Host: So what kind of jobs do you typically find yourselves doing then? Hartley and Sons Builders: Mostly extensions and loft conversions, if I'm honest. Families needing another bedroom, or just more living space downstairs. Host: And the full renovations, is that a different sort of customer? Hartley and Sons Builders: Sometimes, yeah. Could be someone's bought an older place and it just needs bringing up to scratch, room by room. Host: That sounds like a proper journey for people, start to finish. Hartley and Sons Builders: It is, yeah. That's why we like keeping it the same team. You get to know the house, and the people, as you go. Host: Well, that's been really lovely to hear. If you're planning your first big building project, do go and have a chat with Hartley and Sons Builders. Thanks so much for joining us. Hartley and Sons Builders: No, thank you. Cheers for having me.
